Reservoir Distillery 2 Year Old – Batch 1 That Boutique-y Advent Calendar – Day 12

That Boutique-y Advent Calendar 2020

Reservoir Distillery 2 Year Old – Batch 1- 46.6% vol. £54.95

On the 12th day of Christmas Boutique-y gave to me…an American Bourbon Whiskey!!

I was sent this Boutique-y Whisky Company Advent Calendar in order to sample its delights, and to reveal my thoughts to you dear reader!! Will they all delight my palate? Time will certainly tell.

The Reservoir Distillery is located in Virginia.

A scent of well worn leather briefly as I first nosed this, lovely chocolate notes too. These mingle rather nicely with red berry…there’s an almost burnt/caramelised scent on here too.

It’s quite thick / viscous on the palate, and there’s a definite woody note, raspberry and burnt caramel, maybe even treacle toffee add depth to this…almost a hint of something herbal too.

The finish delivers spice, and some caramel.

Lovely artwork by the very clever Emily Chappell once again.

Many thanks to That Boutique-y Whisky Company for the opportunity to review this 🙂

GlenAllachie 10 Year Old – Batch 3 That Boutique-y Advent Calendar – Day 11

That Boutique-y Advent Calendar 2020

GlenAllachie 10 Year Old – Batch 1- 49.9% vol. £61.95

On the 11th day of Christmas Boutique-y gave to me…a dram from GlenAllachie!!

I was sent this Boutique-y Whisky Company Advent Calendar in order to sample its delights, and to reveal my thoughts to you dear reader!! Will they all delight my palate? Time will certainly tell.

The GlenAllachie distillery is to be found just outside Aberlour. I was actually there a couple of weeks ago.

Caramel and toffee with milk chocolate…delicate spices draw you in. It’s a little like apple crumble, with a dribble of custard.

The palate delivers a slight tartness (citrus.) The toffee still plays on the palate, with a hint of pepper and some almost sour apple. A little black tea bitterness joins in…

The finish is short and woody…

Inchfad 13 Year Old – Batch 1 That Boutique-y Advent Calendar – Day 10

That Boutique-y Advent Calendar 2020

Inchfad 13 Year Old – Batch 1- 49.5% vol. £58.95

On the 10th day of Christmas Boutique-y gave to me…a dram from Loch Lomond distiller-y…

I was sent this Boutique-y Whisky Company Advent Calendar in order to sample its delights, and to reveal my thoughts to you dear reader!! Will they all delight my palate? Time will certainly tell.

Inchfad is an island in the south-east of Loch Lomond, which is home to a ruined distillery. This hails from Loch Lomond distillery.

Thinking back to my last visit to Loch Lomond with the Dramboree gang, my lasting memory was sitting drinking whisky in the dark on the jetty outside the SYHA while watching night swimmers. Well that and being eaten alive by midges…

The nose intrigued me a little, lime fruit gums…yeah those ones that stick your teeth together!! Gentle hints of Savlon. Apple and pear. A handful of nuts. Bready. Softly floral. Gentle smoke too.

The palate is a little smoky, a little vegetal. Peaty, but not smack you in the face peaty, just a hint of, I’m being honest. A little sharp… there’s a sweetness there, but it’s a bit shy on revealing itself.

Finish is quite drying and a tad bitter (black tea.) A little wisp of smoke remaining.

Lovely artwork by the very clever Emily Chappell once again.

Dailuaine 20 Year Old – Batch 4 That Boutique-y Advent Calendar – Day 8

That Boutique-y Advent Calendar 2020

Dailuaine 20 Year Old – Batch 4 – 50.4% vol. £156.95

On the 8th day of Christmas, Boutique-y gave to me…a little something from Dailuaine Distillery.

I was sent this Boutique-y Whisky Company Advent Calendar in order to sample its delights, and to reveal my thoughts to you dear reader!! Will they all delight my palate? Time will certainly tell.

Day 8 is from Dailuaine Distillery, and it’s the 20 Year Old – Batch 4 – 50.4% vol.

Today’s dram sees me back in Aberlour once more, Dailuaine distillery lies tucked between the foot of Ben Rinnes and the River Spey. Have you ever been up Ben Rinnes? I was up there a few years back for a chilly bracing walk in the snow. The name is taken from the Gaelic ‘dail uaine’ meaning green valley.

Floral, and a little struck match? Caramel with apple. Biscuity note… sweet and sugary. A little nutty too. There’s something on the nose just not sitting right with me.

Lemon zesty on the palate. It’s quite tannic… peppery warmth and a more subtle sweetness. It’s almost making my tastebuds wince. Caramel or toffee come through too.

Finish is sweet and a little peppery.

Dailuaine label features a pair of sulphur molecules, one seems to be nice and the other seems to be some sort of terrible nightmare creature from the netherworld. Steer clear of that one say the good folks at That Boutique-y Whisky Company. Artwork as ever by the very talented Emily Chappell.

My alternative Boutique-y Whisky art.. sporting the label. Can you see it?

Strathmill 21 Year Old – Batch 6 That Boutique-y Advent Calendar – Day 9

That Boutique-y Advent Calendar 2020

Strathmill 21 Year Old – Batch 6 – 47.7% vol. £89.95

On the 9th day of Christmas Boutique-y gave to me…a sample from yet another distillery near me!! I’m sooo lucky.

I was sent this Boutique-y Whisky Company Advent Calendar in order to sample its delights, and to reveal my thoughts to you dear reader!! Will they all delight my palate? Time will certainly tell.

Strathmill Distillery is located in Keith, Banffshire. A lovely little amble past the Isla Cooperage brings you to it. If you’re able to go for a walk you find the old railway line on the top bank.

The label shows an image of Goldilocks deciding which porridge was just right, the distillery used to be a porridge oats mill.

Lovely artwork by the very clever Emily Chappell once again.

Sweet as honey…lovely spices and delicious vanilla. Smells a bit like driving past Walkers biscuits…

Lovely smooth and quite full on the palate. Vanilla again and some delicious fruit coming through. Think raisins… it’s quite thick. Just the way I like it.

The finish is sweet and long with a little kick of heat…if it was porridge you’d blow on it and make it just right!!
